Looking to buy azeri kamancheh... any leads?
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:30:07 AM »
Hi guys, what's up?
I'm soon leaving for a great quest to Azerbaijan and Armenia. I'm a musician and a also a collector, probably like most of you here :)
Do you have any idea where can I buy best quality kamancheh? I'm looking for a recommendation for a shop or better a maker that makes fine kamanchehs.
Any lead will be blessed :)

Cheers

Have a great time there and welcome to the forum. I suspect that you need to find some players and ask who built their instruments.

Hi guys! thanks for all your replies, it is indeed a great community :) I'm glad to meet you!
I will contact niko, maybe he can get me a lead and as to the film, I watched it already but focuses on Persian kamancheh which is a different story.
If any more ideas, please feel free

Sorry for bringing this up not, but just updating for the next musicians who will be looking for such instruments. After going to Baku, I met these guys who also a website for musical instruments from Azerbaijan. I bought a kamancha from them in Baku and i'm very pleased. They also have some old stuff with Habil style neck, meaning slightly shorter, for higher tune like low D.
Check them up:

The "Ethnic Musical Instruments" site seems only to be distributing stuff made elsewhere (mainly Turkey and Armenia) and quite easy to find - better to buy direct from the maker.
