I loved his singing. He singing, Batzis on klarino, and Zoumbas on lavouto! What good times!!
Kitsakis was so good!! (And he always drank whiskey!)
A truly great singer!
May his memory be eternal.

In his time and in his prime Kitsaki was a big name  in the Epiroti community. If my memory serves me correctly he was an orphan.

Yes, and his famous lp with the photo of him as a poor child is a great one.
And its title song was so beautiful, «Άπ’ το Μηδέν Ξεκίησα» (“From Nothing I Started”).

And he did other songs than just Epirotika. I still have and love his Tsamikos recording “Peristerakia Emorfa” with Batzis on klarino! Fantastic! I know Mporlos also loves that record.

You are very welcome Kokoni!

Here are pix of the lp. He and 2 others are the writers of that song, Kitsakis, Koros, and Komtzias.
The photo is of him as a child in 1947. His inscription reads (for the benefit of non Greeks):

“And the orphans are not lost.....”
“Alekos Kitsakis, the Nightengale of Greece.”

If I've heard peristerakia omorfa once I've heard it 1000 times.  I was truly in love with that song.

I remember having seen that album many decades ago.....life just flies past.
Did Kitsaki ever get married or did he live a bachelor life?  He came to Melbourne several times with Damo Napoleon (klarino) many decades ago...and I had gone to see him with my dad. I remember thinking that very question....something about his mannerism's I guess.
