Looking for a Bb Albert
« on: March 06, 2017, 01:33:12 PM »
Hi,
I'm looking for a Bb Albert system. I'm currently playing an E.J. Albert Bb but it has some keywork on the upper joint that I'm not really getting on with - Ab is played with the LH middle finger instead of the first finger, and the side Eb/Bb also operates the F!
I'm after something with a big open sound and more regular keywork (definitely Ab operated by LH first finger). Preferably French as I hear they tend to be larger bores.
I hear old Buffets are very highly regarded and I just spotted this on Ebay, what do you guys think?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Buffet-Crampon-Bb-Albert-Clarinet/172558067852

It looks like a beautiful clarinet, but is this a good price for a Buffet? I'm in the UK so I'd also have to pay 20% import. I'd be willing to do this if it's a good deal though.

Otherwise do any of the members have anything suitable for sale?

Love the forum by the way, so much great info!

Thanks,
Oli

Looks like a great horn at a good price.  Note that there are no rollers on the pinky keys- that is something to consider if it matters to you.

It's technically not an Albert, but a Simple System. The alternative F#/C# key, which is the only bit that Eugène Albert actually designed is not present. If that doesn't bother you, then it looks like a really good instrument.

Thanks for your replies guys. I decided to go for the clarinet! I think I'll be fine without rollers.
As for the alt F#/C#, thanks for pointing it out Merlin, though it looks to me like it used to have this but the bar connecting the E/B key to the alt F#/C# pad has been removed. Perhaps previous owners preference? No problem though, I ought to be able to get it replaced by my clarinet tech.

there are few of us here that prefer no rollers, its a great horn for our style music.  enjoy it in good health, and please let us know how you like it.

Sadly the seller cancelled the order. I suspect he got a better deal elsewhere. Just for reference, this is the seller http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/insights_inc.

So I'm still looking for Bb if anyone has a beauty they're willing to part with?!
