i used to danz.. but i found a tech that does such a good job for a very low price.. so its not worth the stress of balancing the pads.. or using the right size pad for the job..

if your just changing one pad its not that bad its just a a lot of patience you will need. a whole clarinet can be stressful, especially if you need it to play soon..

I've actually re padded most of my clarinet before and didn't mind the process though re-seating was a pain in the bollix. I'm lookin forward to using some of the tips Tom gives in the videos.

Got the music medic kit in the post today.. it's pretty basic but a good starting point. Anyone know the best and cheapest place for springs, pads and cork?

I don't change pads either. I have to admit that when I occasionally need to stick a slipped pad in, I simply glue it and don't bother balancing it. If necessary, I just press a little harder on the key till I can get it to the (very reasonably priced) shop for adjustment.

The last two clarinets I had redone cost about:
1] $150.00 (€107 for the whole job) at my local shop; and
2] Zero dollars for complete replacement with Valentino pads, by the head tech at Yamaha's service center. Now that's what I call reasonable!

a good point tom made in the video is if you can keep the old pads to make sure you use the right size.. thats the most important part.. and why i stopped doing my own clarinets.. it can become costly to keep ordering more pads from a place like music medic and if you dont have all the pads you might need then its just frustrating..

even after the pads are seated properly theres the balancing of the action... most times you have to change the cork too.. so when you spend all that time getting the pads to seat properly,, theres the key corks to install properly.. which might make the pads different settings..

for 150 its a bargain..  :TU:
