Serkan CAGRİ

Serkan Cagri was born in Kesan in 1976 and went to primary, secondary and high school there. He began to study for his bachelor's degree at Ege University Turkish Music Conservatory in 1995, passed to Istanbul Technical University Turkish Music Conservatory in 1998, and finished his university education here. Cagri, who is still a lecturer in the same university continues his higher education in the Department of Turkish Music Conservatory in Social Sciences Institution of Halic University.

Besides his academic studies, he is involved in various international and cultural music festivals in his homeland and abroad aimed at representing Turkish Music, and in concerts with different music groups. He gave concerts with Group Lacin that he had worked with for years in various places of Australia, Germany, America, Greece, Belgium, Holland, England, Turkmenistan and Turkey.

Serkan Cagri who took a part in the group of Mercan Dede & Secret Tribe joined lots of festivals such as Montreux Jazz (Switzerland), Jazz a Vienne (France), Rhythm Sticks (England), Moers Festival (Germany), Etnomalaga (Spain), Skobye Jazz (Macedonia) with this group.  He gave concerts with Kervansaray Yarkin Esemble in various places of Holland and with Kardes Turkuler Music Group on homeland and abroad.

 

The artist has an album with the name of “My Breath” was published in 2005.  While he continued his academic studies, he wrote research articles 'Historical Process of Clarinet in Turkey and Europe'. His articles written about clarinet were also published in several magazines.  This artist has joined together his skill with traditional music and his theoretical experience and is attracting much attention as one of today’s foremost performers because of his various techniques.

 

Serkan continues his writings on his educational book describing the various techniques of performing with a “G” clarinet in Turkish Music.
